from deep within the shadows, grant steps out with his debut album *the acrobat* on enigmatic label the lauren bacall. lush atmospherics lift up each of the high-flying tracks on *the acrobat*, crafting a sense of euphoria and ease that is reminiscent of such deep house from late 90s early 2000 inspired by labels such as early plastic city, deep4life, and svek.

d ball s debut ep was an under-the-radar techno classic which appeared in a handful of stores back in 2002, it has since been fetching crazy money second hand & been the subject of much speculation about who s behind it. after some all ears sleuthing we managed to locate the label hq and were delighted to hear they had a new ep ready and pressed ! even better (dare we say) than the first release !

following last years meditative mirage ep and the stunning * beat 13* on lovers rock no. 6, earthen sea returns to lr with his debut lp ink. his heaviest and most ambitious work to date, ink is a work of hypnotic, monastic beauty. over the last ten years, earthen sea, aka jacob long, has been developing a sound world all his own, built on a foundation of vaporous grey-black drones and pulsing kick drums. an impressionistic dream-scape of american life, ink journeys between the eerily vacant “entrance” to the feverish “stateless” and the shimmering perfection of “all men know the truth.” swaths of violent, glacial noise collide with lost voices transmitted through the ether, framed between moments of transcendent clarity. following an extended three song suite, closing track * blues in black ink* rides a gently falling piano melody into a finale that is as infused with political rage as it is with private melancholy. with ink, earthen sea arrives fully formed, an artist in utter command of his craft.

moresounds has left the training camp and is now at the controls of his own craft. a dub fanatic, he stays true to the techniques of king tubby, and from behind his desk sends dancefloors crazy with pinches of hip-hop and jungle in his authentic and energetic live show. this approach caught the attention of om units cosmic bridge label in 2012 before his debut ep on astrophonica in 2013. since then his music has appeared on doc scotts 31 recordings and has added trademark cosmic dub seasoning to machinedrums vapor city project. an impressive start to his career, echoed in fact magazines inclusion of the producer as one to watch in 2015.

building upon their first ep release on tevo howard recordings, kate simko and tevo howard have rejoined forces, debuting their full-length album polyrhythmic on sashas last night on earth imprint. native chicagoans, tevo and kate grew up on house music, and their collaboration pays homage to their home city while exploring new creative territory. the duos lp leaves few musical stones unturned, traversing through their melodic, classic, and genre-bending sound.

when people think of tuff gong they usually think of bob marley and rightly so, as he was nicknamed and often called tuff gong and from this his early releases which came out on the tough gong label. but tuff gong was also the name of a recording complex named after bob marley hat included a top level recording studio, pressing plant and distribution centre that would allow reggae music to carry on many years after his sad and too early demise. we focus for this release on the work carried out by the great scientist on the songs of the black solidarity label run by ossie thomas (aka joe the boss) recorded at tough gong studios. one of the foremost recording, pressing and distribution facilities on the jamaican island set up from the work of bob marley to carry forward reggae music. hope you enjoy this set.

the summer heat is still on our minds and we all do miss the sunny days, the beaches and the endless open air parties… thanks sascha dive for the right soundtrack and this summer flashback: dives new release for cocoon beams us back to the high days of the summer of 2015: especially into the woods seems to be the perfect sound for all these deeply missed summervibes. into the woods is a pristine tech-house production that comes with a cool straight forward beat programming, very nice reverse strings-sounds and hypnotic house chords. a nicely flavoured chicago club housefeeling and exactly how we like it! werewolf appears slightly more spaced out, however we are still deep in the house universe here. dive is pushing it a bit harder now - he uses crazy chord sounds and turns the track into an 11 minutetech house journey. after the summer flashback with into the woods this one beams us definitely more into the darker and hotter inner city clubs. a massive tech-house-striker by the diver and we are proud to say it is one of his strongest works so far!

james ross is a guitarist and composer living in brooklyn, n.y. originally from pittsburgh, pa., he has studied guitar at the university of pittsburgh and the mannes college of music in new york city. he has studied sitar with pandit krishna bhatt, and north indian classical music and composition with la monte young and marian zazeela. a composer in a variety of genres, james has written music for orchestral and chamber ensembles, as well as solo music for the guitar and the zhongruan (a type of chinese lute). he has also performed and recorded electronic and improvised music. recent performances as a composer and performer on the electric guitar, laptop and other instruments include sets at the bell house, at the small beast at the delancey with percussionist joseph benzola, a performance with kyle bobby dunn at issue project room, at pianos with richard lainhart, at glasslands gallery with michael vincent waller, at goodbye blue monday with david beardsley, providing live music for katherine liberovskaya and ursula scherrer’s optosonic tea series at diapason gallery in brooklyn, with video artist alex carpenter at the tank in manhattan, and at damrosch park at lincoln center as part of the guitar ensemble for rhys chatham’s “a crimson grail.” a recording of the -crimson grail- performance was released on nonesuch records on sept. 14, 2010. as a classical guitarist, james has performed as a soloist and ensemble player throughout the northeastern united states. he received a solo recitalist fellowship in 1992 from the pennsylvania council on the arts and won the 1993 mannes college of music concerto competition, resulting in a performance of joaquin rodrigo’s “fantasia para gentilhombre,” at symphony space in new york city.
